(5/2022) A unique and mesmerizing single-vineyard Mourvedre here from Contra Costa County. Up-and-coming winemaker Claire Hill is crafting some special wine in California. Savory black currant, brambleberry, thyme, oregano, and a touch of bark. We can't understate how well this wine is put together, it has such a fine tannic structure with ample, yet, in-check acidity that there's nothing out of place. Elegance and refined are not two descriptors oft-used to describe Mourvedre, but Claire Hill is here to change that. This will drink beautifully now, but we look forward to what it becomes in the next 10 years.
